Q:
HiNatives, 3 small questions.
1."He is wealthy, and thus (he) helps the poor always." The induction of "thus" does not require the addition of "he" in order to maintain grammatical accuracy. I just overlook "thus" since "and" is what links the 2 clauses, right?
2. He give(s) him no freedom ;
He does not give him freedom
The former is more formal and the verb needs "s" for it's not affected by the negative marker "no", Am I right too?
3.If I told you : "This man is flaky ". Would you understand it as
a. The man is eccentric
Or
b. The man is unreliable
Best regards!

A:
1. yes, that‘s correct.
2. He gives him no freedom is correct. I don‘t think that it‘s more formal or less formal; I just think the emphasis changes to emphasize freedom more in the former example.
3. B!

Q:
HiNatives! I've got a burning question I want answered. More times than not, I'll see advertisements offering unusual and uneven prices. Something like "Get your own bike from £199.99!" Or something like "subscribe for more interesting offers... Just £0.99 a month". Why is this? Does it hurt to just say £200 or £1? In my country, we never say something like "Rp 49.999". We just say 50 thousand rupiahs. Does subtracting a cent off of the price actually serve a purpose? Or is it just a culture?
I know this doesn't have anything to do with language, but you're welcome to answer 😊 thanks in advance!

A:
The term for this is called Psychological Pricing.
You can find out more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_pricing
I've seen a few examples of it in Indo magazines, but it's not very common as you mentioned.
