A: Heed and it's variants are old and not very common. I would use careful, cautious, meticulous or other versions.

Vigilant means being alert and watchful especially to avoid danger

"I asked you guys to be discreet."
"We were discreet. Invisible is a little harder."
If that is it, then the responders were saying they did attempt to be discreet. However they do not have some superhuman ability to be invisible.
