"Can" is asking if the other person is available to do you the favor. "Would" is asking if the other person will do you the favor.

A: You could use Sweet talk or bootlicking instead of "curried favour". You're not wrong though.

A: The first sentence is natural; however, for the second sentence, it would sound more natural to say "I would be really grateful if you could take care of my house when I am out of town next week."

A: its a British way of spelling the word :) its the same for color & colour. Both are acceptable.
