A: @anovee:
an "attachment" is "attached" to a note or letter (email or snail mail, for example). it is a separate document, in this case, a flyer ( a notice or announcement) about an upcoming lecture to be given at NYU (New York University). The person sending the message with the attachment had met this student when the student was checking in (signing in, registering, as for classes, or into the dorms, etc.) and mentioned/told the student about the lecture (especially since students who often don't have a lot of money, love FREE things! ;-). He is reminding the student about the free lecture, and offering to sign the student up for it.
