Hunger stems from the countries’ lack of resources and poor environment, thus it directly attributes to the children’s lack (?) (of) education

I put the (?) there because I am just guessing, and put (‘s around the of because only put of if you put lack. It is more natural to state how their education is especially if it is part of an essay so you can introduce what you will soon start talking about. If you have any more questions feel free to ask as it is a bit confusing! ^^

Q: I am reading The Hunger Games and I can't understand the following sentence:
"Just the opposite of what Haymitch had mid him to do."

I looked up 'mid' in dictionary but I couldn't find an appropriate example for this sentence. I think it indicates something like 'advise'....? Or is it a simple preposition meaning like 'amid'?

Thank you.
A: "Advised" is what she meant. It's a very rare word to use, though.
