Q:
muggy, saggy... Why does English have such a lots -gy sounding words. That's so cute. What else do you use often?
A:
We often add endings on to nouns to make them into adjectives. the noun "Sag" turns to "saggy" because you wouldn't say, "That shirt is too sag." This doesn't make sense. In these examples, we are not adding the -gy ending, we are adding the -y ending, and adding on another "g" because of spelling rules. Another example would be the use of "watery". You wouldn't say "This soup is water." to describe that it is not thick enough or too flavorless because "water" is a noun, not a description of what the soup is.
Adding -y to the end of nouns in order to make them adjectives works a lot of the time; However, it doesn't always work.
