Secondly, you can say "it's more expensive than [...]" with the construction "it is more/less (adjective) than [...]".
But, here, since you're using an adverb ("twice"), we use this construction: "it is (adverb) as (adjective) as [...]"

Thirdly, since the next sentence is talking about something contradicting the sentence before, we would use "but" instead of "because"!

Lastly, remember that the verb is "has been" in "I've always been" and so the "been" needs to be there!
