I think he meant "turned over" literally. As in, when Watson and Sherlock were watching the news, Sherlock was probably lying down facing the television. When he saw the news, he said "boring" and then turned to face away from the television to get more rest.
This sentence is mainly to point out how unfazed Sherlock is by terrorist bombings.
