That's about how we'd say it. Maybe "the ship ran aground" or "the ship wrecked" or "the ship collided with the shore." I've heard all of those used in every-day speech.

I forgot - if it's out in the sea still, and it ran aground on a reef, we'd colloquially say it was "stranded"

I haven't talked colloquially about ships running aground. I'd probably just say "it got stuck".
