¿Qué significa it was a conscious desire to make a pastoral in the list of genres – tragedies, comedies, pastorals. ?

It's a director talking about his film. But I don't quite get what does he mean in this sentence. Thanks.
update: I think I get it?? It's a pastoral film which is also a comedy and a tragedy?

I think what he means is that tragedies, comedies and pastorals are a list of three of the most important genres of literature and he has moved on to a pastoral work on this list, after producing tragedies and comedies.

I would take it as meaning he’s making a pastoral after working in other genres, although I’d need a bit more context to be certain!
