"Dentist appointment" is incorrect grammar. It should be "dentist's appointment".
The difference between the two is subtle. A dental appointment is an appointment to do with dentistry but may not be with a dentist - it could be for an X-ray, with a nurse, or with a hygienist. A dentist's appointment ought to be reserved for those occasion when you actually meet the dentist - but it is often also used for any appointment at a dentist's surgery.
