The differences are subtle. In the US you would usually say, I'm going to see a movie or I'm going to the cinema, but you can also say, It was a first rate film. I really like those old films or movies. Most people say traffic light but stoplight is ok. You will be understood and it is not uncommon.

It depends on what type of vocabulary. A lot of vocabulary we borrow (sometimes without even realizing). Sometimes people use both forms interchangeably. Film sounds perfectly natural. So do both traffic light and stoplight. I think we tend to say "stoplight" more but I do say both.
On the other hand, there is vocabulary that would sound weird to us Americans.
-Toilet/loo=bathroom/restroom
-Candy floss=cotton candy
-Biscuits=cookies
-football boots=soccer cleats
-Crisps=chips (Lay's)
-Chips=French fries 🍟
These would probably be weird for an American to say
