"I had a blast" (this is correct way to say it) has more emotion than "it was fun". If you say that you had a blast, you had a really good time doing whatever you did and that it was basically a 10/10 experience.
Person 1: How was the party last night?
Person 2: It was fun. I had a good time.
versus
Person 1: How was the party last night? Did you have a good time?
Person 2: I had a blast! The music was great and I hung out with a bunch of cool people.

Yes, it was a blast is a bit more casual but they both mean the same thing.
