Both are about a stated thing.
Eg, about whether or not you can go to Bob's party.

This is more if things are still more unclear.
Eg. Is Bob having a party? I# so, where? Am I invited? If Louise is there, I can't go. But if she's not going I can. But only if Bob invites me. … Just keep me in the loop and I'll buy a dress if I need one.
