Two “long” years makes it sound like it felt longer than two years for them. Like it was the longest two years of their life.

1. "It's been two years since I went to England, you know"
2. "It's been two long years since I went to England, you know"
No 1. Is reminiscing about their time in England, which happened two years ago.
No.2 It exaggerates the fact that two years have past and could also mean that those two years felt a lot longer than it should of.
In this context we could say 'two long years' is a positive thing as they might have missed being in England or that their time in England was soo enjoyable, they want to go back soon.
However, it could be negative (it would be more clear from the conversation and the tone of the speaker's voice as they say this sentence). For example their time in England could have not been pleasant. So they might be happy that two years have passed. The use of 'long' might suggest that the speaker is trying to make their trip to England seem further in the past than it actually was, as they do not want to think much about it.

@SKYot7 In a movie, someone talks about a notorious serial killer saying "He's been dormant five long years"
By "long", does it suggest the speaker is waiting or expecting for the killer to kill someone again?
By "long", does it suggest the speaker is waiting or expecting for the killer to kill someone again?

@Bunch Yes, It could mean that. The speaker might also be happy/relieved that the killer hasn't killed anyone in five years so he exaggerates that time by saying "long" but at the same time the speaker could be anticipating the killer to kill again eventhough it has been a long time.
