"to stumble across" something sounds more accidental than "to come across" since "stumble" means "lose your balance or almost fall".
"to stumble across" increases the idea of "a lack of skill" or something that happens totally by accident, a situation "you fell into". It might also imply you were lost or aimless and then found something.
"to stumble across" also sounds more proper. Usually people say "came across" in casual speech, but use either in writing.
I stumbled across/on/upon this book by chance.
I came across a new cafe on my morning jog.
We stumbled onto/across the ruins of an old fort after a long trek in the forest.
Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. It is something you should convey.
I came across these old photos recently.
I came across a word I’d never seen before.
Have you ever come across such a horrible person in all your life?
It's important to keep in mind that "come across" has other usages that are similar to "seem" or "appear".
A lot depends on how well you come across in the interview.
She comes across as very self-confident.
His sense of enthusiasm comes across very clearly.
