I heard it when I was out shopping today from a shop keeper.
“Yeah, not bad. It’s a bit hot out today for me though. How’s your day been?”
I could have said:
“Busy. But I’m nearly done for the day. How about you?”
Or:
“Flat chat! But it’s almost knock off time. You had much on?”
Flat chat = very very busy
Knock off time = time to finish work
You had much on = how has your day been
I’m Australian, and that last reply we would all understand 😉

I hear it most nights from my wife, or say it to her....
It usually is an invite to tell each other what has happened during the day e.g. at work, within the family etc.
"My day hasn't been too bad. I had a couple of important meetings that went well and I managed to finish off one major task. How about you?"

Since my online tutor starts her lesson with this question that my textbooks have never shown me, I usually get stuck and am not sure what to say.(👈am I saying it right, btw?)
