If some one says 「分かって欲しい」 does that mean "I want to understand" or "I want someone to understand"?

I'm not a native speaker at all but I think that わかってほしい means "I want someone to understand"
例:
私が君に分かってほしいことはただ一つです。
There's only one thing that I want you to understand. (from http://ejje.weblio.jp/sentence/content/分かってほしい )
Maybe a native speaker could confirm?
