What do they mean by 'parenthetically or force'?

I guess this is what they said:

what he wanted to know is how does one teach, and he said parenthetically or forced, current mathematics teachers to make math fascinating

OMG Tata you have the most interesting questions. Your transcription is correct but I have to GUESS what it means ;)

I THINK it means this. In English (I have not seen this in Spanish) we often say something like this:

The teacher "taught" the class.

By putting "taught" in quotation marks we are implying that they didn't really teach it, they did a terrible job, they tried but they sucked at it. Another example, Trump "won" the election, or Trump is "saving" lots of jobs. He didn't really and he isn't really, but some people pretend that it's so.

So I think what she is saying is that teachers "teach" math, but not really, because they do a shitty job of it and they need to find a way to make it more interesting because their students are asleep half the time.

So I think "parenthetically or forced" in this context means "he said it in a way that implied that they weren't doing a good job."

Someone else might have a better interpretation ;)

I think I got it, so you mean that they are adding an extra information about current math teachers, and to convey that they have used ''parentherically or forced'' meaning they are not quite good at their jobs and yet they are called math teachers.

Well, in spoken Spanish I think we do something similar, and to convey it we use either
1) body language: gesturing with two fingers on both hands in the air and saying the word (both simultaneously)
or
2) pausing 1, 2 or so seconds, raising the voice while saying ''entre comillas" and then the word we want to emphasize.

@GregT Hola, me quedé intrigado, pero luego leí la introducción de este podcast y mira lo que encontré

"A podcast listener and fan recently wrote in with a question: How does one teach (or force) current and future Math teachers to make Mathematics fascinating?"

Es decir, lo que ella quiso decir es que el oyente escribió o dijo entre paréntesis el verbo "force" además del verbo "teach" por eso fue que se echaron a reír.

Me gustó mucho este ejemplo, parenthetical se refiere a los paréntesis.
