¿Cuál es la diferencia entre あ、う、え、お、い、ゆ、や、よ、つ y ぁ、ぅ、ぇ、ぉ、ぃ、ゅ、ゃ、ょ、っ ?Puedes dar oraciones como ejemplo.

I never really understood what making the Hiragana characters smaller did. What’s the use?

The smaller characters added after big ones to make a character that doesn't exist in hiragana
ふぃ-fi
If you add one of them after i it's become
きょ-kyo, ぢゅ-dyu
The っ doesn't make sound but it makes the furigana like this:
きっき-kikki

Well, it would be better to think they are just different characters, because in many cases, they aren't interchangable.
