I have two questions about "scoot over"
1) Can I use "scoot over" to ask my friend to move to another separate chair (not connected seats)? Or does it have to be connected like a bench or a couch?
2) Can I say "Could you please scoot over?" to a stranger or can I only say this to my friends?

My opinion.
1. No. I'd only use that with connected seats, not separate chairs.
2. I think it is okay to say that to a stranger.
