It really depends on where you are from. Normally, a glass is actually made of glass. A cup is usually made out of plastic, but it could be made out of anything. Mugs are also normally made out of glass, but it is completely different from a glass. A mug is normally cylinder with a handle on it.

@aleighangel when you say “where you are from”, you mean “that place of USA you are from”?

@ruyvasconcelos Yes, that is what I mean. A lot of the time, a person from the north will have a different meaning compared to the south. For example, in the south we say "soda". But, in other parts of America, they may say "pop" or "cola".
