¿Esto suena natural? How can we classify triangles?
* Can you tell me if "classify" is a big word for 9-years old children? If so, can you rephrase the sentence to child-friendly one? Thanks!

As for triangles, which class do they belong in?
—“Classify” is a good word to teach to a 9-year-old. If the child understands the word “class”, then it is easy to explain how class (noun) becomes a verb (classify).
There is an English idiom that goes like this: This is a teachable moment.

@ladybug Thank you for your detailed explanation.
Can I continue asking you if ”class" would work in case they focus on lengths of sides? We assume that they classify focusing on the number of sides in same length: a pair of sides are in equal length, namely isosceles triangles, and all 3 sides are equal, namely equilateral triangles, and all 3 sides are different in length.
We will not show the classes in advance, but we want children to discover that they can focus on number of equal sides in length.
Also, how does "which group do they belong to?" sound like compared to the one you have suggested?
Thank you and sorry for taking too much time.

Group is appropriate in this discussion, as well as class.
