The difference is between the times what were used in this sentences. "You have grown so fast" it is a sentence in present perfect. So a person who said it, had to say it in the moment when he/she saw him/her for the first time from a longer time. The second sentence is in past simple. These words were said after some time, after the meeting these 2 persons. But many people don't use present perfect and in both situations they would use past simple.

Generally sentence is okay, but I'm not sure if you could use "grow" to say about it. I think that "My English has got better since I took the english course" is a better way to say it :)
