"Windrush fiasco". The Windrush was a passenger ship which brought lots of people from the Carribbean to the UK after WW2 to help rebuild the economy. Recently, although many of these people had been in the UK for decades, it turns out many were never really registered as being UK citizens and the Government here have made a mesd of trying to sort it out. A fiasco means a big mess.

Fiasco, maybe?
A “fiasco” is something that went badly wrong or was done very badly. You could also say “disaster” or “scandal”.
“Windrush” was the name of a famous ship that bought people to the U.K. from the commonwealth (especially Jamaica and Barbados) in the 1940s and 1950s. Those people are sometimes called “the Windrush generation”.
A few years ago, the government told all those people to prove they had the right to live in the U.K. or be deported. Most of those people didn’t have any proof, because they didn’t need permission to come over in the 40s and had never had to fill in paperwork. They had been living in Britain for fifty or sixty years, most had no property or living family in Jamaica or wherever, and would be separated from their British-born children and grandchildren. It later came out that there were records which could prove who they were, but the government itself had destroyed those records to save space.
In the end, the government looked very bad and eventually said those people could stay.
