Without context this is difficult to answer, however:
Got off on the wrong foot= when you first met the meeting did not go well. He thought badly of you.
By hearing how you speak = This is really saying that you speak differently to the way he expected you to speak (based on his first impression).
EG: he first thought that you were an idiot but after hearing you talk realises that you are not
What kind of person I am: based on your actions he now realises that his initial impression of you was wrong.
EG: perhaps he thought you were selfish but now realises that you are not.
Often this type of line is an indicator of snobbery by the speaker. He thought you were white trash but now realises that you are like him, a white, upper middle class, self important wanker.
eg: perhaps he thought you were an uneducated fool but listening to you talk realises that you are both educated and intelligent
Tip: avoid people who use this type of language. They are judgemental and will bin you the moment your use by date has expired
