"Too much" is having more than enough, and is usually negative. "So much" means that you have lots, but it is not more than you can deal with. For example "I have so much cake!" Makes you sound happy you have lots. But "I have too much cake." Makes it sound like you aren't that happy about it and might need help eating it.
