Is my text grammatically correct?
Carnival of Venice
Carnival of Venice is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy. The carnival ends with a Christian celebration of fasting, 40 days before Easter, on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. The Venice Carnival began in 1162 in celebration of the Venice Republic's victory over its enemy: the Patriarch of Aquileia. People of Venice gathered in Saint Mark's Square to dance and celebrate their victory. Most costumes are traditionally Venetian in that they feature Venetian masquerade masks and traditional capes or gowns. Many people dress up in interesting and colorful outfits. Masks are an important feature of the carnival. Most masks are made using gesso and gold leaf and are hand painted using natural feathers. Masks allowed wearers to protect their identity and remove any social differences. During the carnival there are free shows, costume parades at Piazza San Marco, videoprojections and etc.
