@tjstkdn Yeah, they are pretty common during normal conversation. One phrase can be switched with the other in any situation.

It makes sense, but you wouldn't see a native speaker use it. The first two that you mentioned are much more common.

when someone told me a bed experience he had recently.
if i said "shit happens" instead of "things happen", would it sound rude if i'm not close to him/her?
shit happens is way improper than things happen?

i feel kinda gulity bc im asking too much but im not gonna let go of this chance! lol
so... could you please tell me which of these phrases sound "uncommon", "poetic", "unusual"?. i dont need things from textbooks or novels.
1. i'm up a creek
2. that will be the cold day in hell.
3. have a heart!(to a hardass)
4. if memory serves
5. the struggle is real
6. real talk!
7. you will be in for a treat
8. if time's on my side.
9. i'm on the fense(contemplating)
feel free to say anything in your opinion!

@tjstkdn It isn't conditional without the "if", but that is the form in which it is commonly used. Ex: The team was up by 20 points. Time was on their side.

@JKDriven hmm, but actually i want to use "if time's on my side" as "if time allows me". not as a general statement.

Honestly, I don't think that would be the best use for it. "If time allows" sounds better @tjstkdn
