“Salvar” is more like to save someone’s life.
• Un hombre me salvó cuando me estaba ahogando en la alberca.
“Guardar” is used like to save something for later, or to put something away in a specific place/to store away
• Los estudiantes guardan sus papeles en sus mochilas.
• Voy a guardar el resto de mi comida para más tarde.

Depende mucho del contexto:
"Salvar" es cuando quieres ayudar a un ser vivo que esta en peligro.
Ejemplo: "Salven a mi gatita que se cayo en ese hoyo!"
"Guardar" es cuando metes un objeto dentro de otro objeto, como una caja, buro, cajon, auto, etc.
Ejemplo: "¿Sandra ya guardaste la ropa que te dije en la maleta?
"Salvar" y "Guardar" significan lo mismo cuando quieres que un archivo se almacene dentro de tu computadora, laptop, consola, etc.
