We “take a shot” or “give it a shot” to try (try to do something) or to give something a chance.
“Shoot your shot” would be more specific to the chance you have right at that moment or in a specific circumstance.
For example, this phrase might be yelled to a basketball player in a game. It would literally be telling the player to shoot the basketball (throw it at the hoop to make a basket) because he/she has the opportunity/the chance (the shot) to do it at that moment.
