@Karina27483 you would say “there is a lot of fish in my fridge”

@Karina27483 If you want to say that you have a lot of different individual fish in your fridge, I feel like you could use the plural. If you are just talking about an abstract quantity (like the meat in cans of fish) I think you would use the singular.
Take another example:
There is a lot of cake left over. = a large amount of one leftover cake
There are a lot of cakes left over. = several cakes
The word 'cake' has a countable and an uncountable sense, but in the countable sense it has a distinct plural form. The word 'fish', however, despite having a countable form in addition to an uncountable one, doesn't have (perhaps more technically -- isn't used) a plural form, but still retains the distinction I mentioned in the cake example. Did that make sense?
