Grab suggests the action of taking picking something up with your hands. It can also be used metaphorically.
"The cops grabbed me and pushed me into the car."
"I grabbed my keys on my way out the door."
"This event really grabbed my attention."
Grasp emphasizes the holding of something firmly, and can also be used metaphorically.
"He grasped the baseball bat tightly." (He held the baseball bat tightly.)
"I quickly grasped this complicated idea." (I quickly understood.)
Grip is similar to grasp, in describing holding something tightly, and in my mind sounds more violent or strong. It can also be used as a noun, and to describe movies or books.
"He gripped my arm so hard that it left a mark." (He wrapped his hand around my arm very hard.)
"His grip is very strong." (He can hold very heavy things in his hand without them slipping.)
"That was a very gripping film." (It held my attention.)
Clench suggests more of a squeezing or flexing, and is often used to make the action sound angrier or out of control. Also doesn't have to be describing hands.
"He clenched his fists in preparation for the fight." (He tightly squeezed his hands into a fist.)
"He clenched his toes." (He curled his toes and squeezed.)
Catch describes interrupting the motion of something with your hands and gaining control of it. Can also be used similar to grab in other contexts, and for things like illnesses.
"He caught the ball." (Somebody threw the ball in the air, and he used his hands to grab it.)
"The cops caught the criminal." (The cops found the criminal and put him in jail etc.)
"She caught my attention." (She attracted my attention.)
"I caught a terrible cold." (I got infected by terrible a cold.)
I probably missed some stuff and hope this isn't too confusing. Grab, grasp, and grip are all very closely related. While clench and catch are fairly distinct.
