I would say “glad for” (glad of sounds unnatural)
“I’m glad for my son for passing the entrance examination.” (This is the most common way to say it I think, but you could make it possessive like you did: ...for my son’s passing the...)

it would sound more natural to say I am glad my son passed the entrance exam.

I think so but you should say instead: I’m glad my son passed the entrance examination.
Alone (my son’s passing) usually is used in the context of “my son’s death”
So until the last clause it sounds like you’re happy that your son died.
