@rufaidahabdat
presumably it is saying that you can buy software to reconfigure .... without having to replace the more expensive hardware ... (the platform/grounding on which it sits) ...
something like that?? this sounds like typical 'advertisement jargon' perhaps from an advert?
More context is needed :)

Is this related to aircraft software? A grounding for an aircraft type is where it is not able to fly until an accepted fix has been implemented.

@f57rhs the context is about upgrading an aircraft and something like that:
To tackle the issue of dwindling cockpit real estate, the Tempest team decided to focus on virtual and augmented displays, and other technology such as gaming controllers. The focus on software instead of hardware is designed to
allow quick reconfigurations without costly groundings

@peterf yes it is! i think it'd be clearer if you read the full paragraph:
“Every time we want to upgrade a sensor or add a new weapon to the airframe, we're scrabbling around almost for buttons, and for display space, to try and make it still coherent for the operator,” said Suzy Broadbent, human factors manager at BAE Systems Air. “We‟re running out of space – the technology is moving so fast, and the weapons and sensors are moving so
fast, that there‟s more information than we could display.” To tackle the issue of dwindling cockpit real estate, the Tempest team decided to focus on virtual and augmented displays, and other technology such as gaming controllers.

Thank you, this makes perfect sense now! ... and peterf, as usual, is very observant in immediately grasping the context. :)
