Pregunta de Inglés (US)
I face trouble to comprehend particularly a sentence like :They seem to be taking a longtime to decide.
I am unable to get why 'To be taking' is used, because to be always follow 'an 'infinite verb like Taken'. But in this case, gerund is used.
Is there anyone interested to clear it to me?

taking is a participle here.
"They seem to be ..." takes an adjective or participle. "They seem to be busy." "They seem to be upset." "They seem to be sleeping."
"They are taking a long time to decide." is how you would say it without using the word "seem". Or, "It seems they are taking a long time to decide."
"long time" is two words.
