Pregunta de Inglés (US)

I found that the origin of "exploit" is "ex + ploit"(mean unfolded). So why "exploit" means "to make full use and benefit" or "to use in an unfair situation" from "unfolded"? How transition has taken place until now?

I would be grateful for your help.
