As to "which one is correct?",
is "one" indispensable to make this sentence sound natural? Or is it ok to omit "one" like "which is correct?"?

Which one is correct is the correct answer.
If you say "which is correct" it means something different.

When you say "which one" it means you are choosing between several options.

Example with "which one" :
I ask you one question and give you 4 possible answers. Which one is correct? (which of the 4 answers is correct?)


When you say "which", you are talking about something you have just mentioned.

Example with "which is" :
You chose answer number 3, which is correct! (=the answer number 3 is correct)
