Whether it is a verb or an noun doesn’t make any difference –
The real difference is in what part of Britain you come from.
Just choose the pronunciation of plant which you prefer, and stick with it. It’s no problem.
Where I grew up in Australia, people use both pronunciations depending on their mood. It’s a little bit disconcerting at first but then you get used to it. It’s just normal for that part of the world. Absolutely doesn’t matter.
