hi, i am a man, we were learnng chinese character, a hour in a day, fource~fivece, in 7 days,
someone who very elder, elder are studying 한자, the 한자 using in someone's name, a place one, my name has 한자, a gate of ganghwa, a gate of soongrye, hunginji has name as 한자, however, most of korean who women, students, not elder know a few the 한자.

I can't tell you that I just searched a statistic and found out 35% of words we usually use are 한자어. kidding :D In Korea, not knowing 한자 doesn't really throw you into as terrible situation as in Japan or China! Just... you have to remember tons of words which seems no correlation and brag your ignorance when you fill a form at every office? what am I talking about? Just read the naileunwolyoil's above :|
In many reasons, including what I mentioned above, many parents make their children learn 한자 pretty early, before entering the elementary school;The above friend and me would be that case. But In Obligation, curriculum of 한자 relies on solely one's school's choice. In my city it was around 14~17 y.o. which is middle school 1st grade ~ high school 1st grade. Also, there's a subject for 한자 on the Korean college entrance test, known as 수능

Yes, we learn it from elementary school. But actually we are not using anymore in real life. So from this reason, I would say 한자 is useless. If you wanna study Korean really deep inside, then I recommend.
