@Izzy_Smith12345 Escribir es la forma infinitiva del verbo y escribo es la forma en presente de la primera persona del singular (es decir, la forma conjugada), que es lo mismo que dijeramos "yo escribo".

As @lizzie26082015 explains, escribir is the infinitive form of the verb (In Spanish infinitives can be recognized by finishing in either -ar, -er or -ir.) It is equivalent to "to write". The uses may vary, though.
Escribo is the verb conjugated to the first person singular in simple present of indicative. It is equivalent to saying "I write".
In Spanish, to conjugate verbs, we must use their root replacing the suffix according to the tense and grammatical person.
E.g. Escribir is infinitive, as I said above, the -ir suffix shows it is infinitive.
To conjugate in present of indicative we use the root "escrib-" plus the necessary suffix:
(Yo) escribo
(Tú) escribes
(Él/ella) escribe
(Nosotros) escribimos
(Ustedes) escriben
(Ellos/ellas) escriben
For other tenses, the suffixes must change.

In simple:
Escribo is the infinitive form of the verb, it doesn't show a specific time and you can only use it with the first person "yo".
Ex: Yo escribo un poema (I write a poem)
The reason why you can't use it with another person it's because your talking about yourself and if you want to talk about other person it would be "escribe" (this is when your talking about she or he not in plural)
Extra: In Spanish when we learn about the verbs we have a "trick", every verb have a base and if you can find it you win.
Ex: Comer --> Comen, Como, Comemos
(base form)
If you put attention you've seen that there is a part that always appear "Com-" then you add another part depending on time and person. If you do this with every verb it'd be easier to just finish it with the correct letters.
I hope I helped u ^^
