I'm confused if I need to use the preposition "to" or "for" in the following sentence:
I use a stove to cook food / for cooking food.
Which one is correct? How do I know when I need to use "to" or "for"?

Both are correct. I am not a grammar teacher and hopefully someone else can explain to you. For me and I guess for most people, it is learnt from frequent usage (read a lot n use the language often.)
