차는 따뜻하다/ 물은 따뜻하다.
when the letter is finished with vowel, '는' is used.
when the letter is finished with consonant, '은' is used

이/가, 은/는 is used after the subject! so you should say "친구를 만나요"

you can say "마크가 고양이를 좋아해/ 마크는 고양이를 좋아해"

No you are right, that is what I meant! Now that makes more sense to why 를 is used, thank you!
So if I say “I am eating breakfast” or “eat breakfast”, I say “저는 아짐을 먹어요” or “아짐을 먹어요”?

@francisautumn Normally, "이/가" is used as the basic.
Use '은/는' when you want to emphasize a subject.
But I think Korean people use '은/는' more when they talk.

And you have to use 은/는 when it's contrasted with what you said before. Let me give you an example.
언니가 공부를 해. 근데 나'는' 공부를 하지 않고 놀거야.
