I believe you mean: in case (of), and in the event (of). If so, then they mean the same thing. Sometimes "of" is not needed.
In case (of) = in the event of = if or when some thing occurs...

"The case of" usually refers to the situations of peoples. One example would be "In the case of Ben, he should start studying harder or else he will fail his classes" while "In the event of" refers to places or happenings. One good example for this is when you are inside of an airplane, they would usually say "In the event of a water landing, please leave your belongings behind..." so as you can see there is a an event happening.
