מעט is a bit more formal

By the way
מעט is commonly used in the phrase
עוד מעט
which means In a short time/soon:
אני עוד מעט הולכת לעבודה.
מתי האוכל יהיה מוכן? עוד מעט.
עוד מעט האוכל יהיה מוכן.
אני אגיע עוד מעט.

some examples for the words were the meaning is Some/a little:
