@monyumonyu yes, you can join if you are willing to, but I assume men are required if war breaks out. I’m also pretty sure you have to be a certain age to join, too. To prevent children from joining, of course. But for the salary; I’m unsure how much you’d make. It most likely won’t be a lot compared to a doctor’s, though.

Anyone old enough can join, but you have to be fit and well. This includes most mental disorders, chronic illness, missing limbs/injuries, that sort of thing. You also can’t be too old. The federal maximum age is 42, but the different branches are usually younger than that, with the marine corps capping enlistment at 28. This goes with the “fit and well” part, what with health diminishing with age.
The salary varies hugely. The average is between 29k-92k per year, depending on the branch and rank, specialization, etc. Some people make careers out of it, some just do it for college tuition, or health benefits.
Edit: also, you don’t have to be a US citizen, but if you’re not, you have to have a green card, and your choices might be limited.

For disabilities that restrict you from joining, you can go through a special process to prove you are capable. For things like autism, there are a lot of extra steps to joining but it’s still possible

@monyumonyu there is a strong sense of loyalty but unfortunately a lot of people are tricked into it too. They get promised free education. Recruiters target poor communities.
Basically the two people in the military are:
1. Brainwashed nationalists who think America has never done anything wrong.
2. People who cannot afford school and are desperate to receive an education and accomplish something.

@Galore Thanks I see. I like the word "Brainwashed nationalists" lol.
There is a university to prepare to join Japan self defense forces and once we entered there, we even get paid as a salary. So I can understand such a reason.

@PBKing it’s definitely a simplified version but recruiters absolutely do target poor communities. I thought that was common knowledge.
You’re telling me I’m immature but I’m not calling people stupid on a study app. You have got to know that older people aren’t any less extreme with their views on the military.
