Compliment = a nice thing somebody says to you. “He said I was pretty! I loved the compliment”

Complement = to work well with another thing. To add extra features to something else that doesn’t have those features in a way to work synergistically.

Eg. “My friend and I really complement each other at work - she knows how to do all of the things I don’t know how to do and vice versa”.

“This wine complements the food very well”

“My boyfriend and I really complement each other in a spiritual way” (not to be confused with, “give each other compliments”, which would just mean “we say nice things to each other”)
