¿Qué significa "The degrees given at the art school are validated by the University of Sussex." ?

This is a example sentence in my vocabulary book for the word "validate".

I know that "validate" means "make something valid", but I can't understand the sentence.

Does the sentence mean, if the students who got bachelor degree at the art school study abroad at the University of Sussex, they can start with curriculum for master's degree?

only certain institutions have a "charter" to grant degrees in the UK. It sounds like the art school is not accredited, but they have some association with the University of Sussex, whereby the university oversees the program and is able to grant degrees.
