The person who is speaking in that sentence is referring to the person he is talking to making a fool of himself and not looking for the person he paid the money for.
"Hacerse pendej0"
(Making a fool of himself)

@Aroneitorrr yes I know that way of saying it “hacerse pendejo” but in the series it was hacerle al pendejo, why was it said like that, I can’t find anyone else saying it that way

It means the same thing, but you are right, there is a difference that it means he is making a fool of himself but that "hacerle al" can refer to if he keeps making a fool of himself there will be repercussions, like killing him or so, you can say it's like a threat but not as strong

@Marcus_ The specific use of “hacerle al pendejo” works as “acting like a fool” “hacerle al” is a common informal way of talking… for example:
“Hacerle al payaso” acting like a clown
“Hacerle al carpintero” this use is more interesting… goes along the same lines but is implying you’re not actually even good at it.
If my chair broke and I don’t want to pay a carpenter I might “hacerle al carpintero” that’s something a lot of Mexicans actually do
This way of talking is definitely a more playful or offensive way of talking, depending on the context.

@pepe_r very interesting and thank you for the response, ive always known it as Hacer el payaso/tonto/ etc.. the whole adding of the le and al was the part confusing me, but it appears they mean the same thing

@Marcus_ yep, is almost the same thing, if most, as it sounds slightly more exaggerated and is let’s common, I find it a little bit more funny… anyway, a pleasure to help
