Hi,
I think that the (literal)translation is :
Mi mamá y mi hermana están en su escuela para una conferencia de madre e hija.

-I note that you use "her" therefore I wrote "su escuela",I mean, they aren't at my/ours school, true?, I think that's importan for the sense.

-on other hand, you use "for" and this must be something like "para/ por/durante". I don't advice "en" because else the sense of sentence is like "they are in the conference right now" but the sense of original sentence say "they are in the school right now and in some time they will be in the conference"

Finally these are my suggestions:
1. Mi mamá y mi hermana están en su escuela para una conferencia madre e hija.

In a colloquial way :
2. Mi mamá está en la escuela de mi hermana para una conferencia de madre e hija.
-I know it, this sentence looks very different but it make same sense really.
